Delhi Union of Journalists remember Sitaram Yechury as an MP, as a political worker, as a columnist

New Delhi,September 13 (KIP)-Delhi Union of Journalists condoles the passing away of CPI (M) general secretary Sitaram Yechury. As an MP, as a political worker, as a columnist and as an editor of People’s Democracy and The Marxist, Mr. Yechury always stood for the freedom of press and for the freedom of expression. On multiple occasions, he has raised issues such as rampant contractualisation of journalists and corporatisation of media. Whenever media or journalists came under attack, he came to the forefront of protests demanding justice.

He was a friend of DUJ. He has participated in several programmes of the DUJ in the past. When Patriot workers and journalists were on virtual starvation, he raised the issue in the workers Debt Recovery Tribunal(DRT) with telling effect.

DUJ expresses heartfelt condolences to his wife and our colleague Seema Chishti, his daughter Akhila, son Danish and his family members, friends and comrades. His loss is irreparable not just for the progressive and democratic movements in the country, but also for trade unions, workers and farmers.
The National Alliance of Journalists(NAJ) joins in the tribute.
