KVK Kargil-II Zanskar organizes in-service training for extension personnel

Kargil, December 15 (KIP)-Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Kargil-II Zanskar on Saturday successfully conducted a one-day training program for officers and extension workers of the Agriculture Department, Kargil.

The event was chaired by Dr. Akhon Mohd Mehdi, Principal Scientist and Head of KVK Kargil-II, and attended by esteemed officers and participants from various zones of Kargil district.

Prominent attendees included Aishaq Hussain Basharat, Chief Agriculture Officer; Mohd Iqbal, Deputy Director, Command Area Development; GM Khan, Former CAO; Razia Banoo, Nodal Officer PM-Kisan; Mohd Hussain, SDO; as well as Agriculture Extension Officers, Junior Extension Officers, and Senior Field Assistants from different zones.

The training program featured insightful lectures by guest experts.

Dr. Mansoor Hussain, Assistant Professor of Soil Science, School of Agriculture Sciences and Technology, University of Ladakh, who discussed soil fertility and soil management practices in relation to vegetable and field crops.

Dr. Kousar Fatima, Assistant Professor of Plant Pathology, School of Agriculture Sciences and Technology, University of Ladakh, addressed effective insect-pest and disease control measures.

Dr. Akhon Mohd Mehdi highlighted the importance of sustainable agricultural and horticultural production amid the challenges of an increasing population in Kargil district. He emphasized the need to minimize the use of inorganic soil inputs and encouraged the adoption of eco-friendly agricultural practices to ensure long-term soil health and productivity.

Despite the region's extreme cold temperatures, participants actively engaged in discussions, demonstrating their commitment to agricultural development. The Chief Agriculture Officer, Aishaq Hussain Basharat, extended a vote of thanks to KVK Kargil-II Zanskar for organizing this impactful training program and for providing a platform where officers from across the jurisdiction could exchange knowledge and expertise.

This initiative reinforces KVK Kargil-II's commitment to advancing agricultural practices and building the capacity of extension personnel to better serve the farming community in cold-arid conditions.
