DC Kargil chairs District Road Safety Committee meeting

Kargil, January 17 (KIP)-Deputy Commissioner/CEO, LAHDC, Kargil, Shrikant Suse today chaired the District Road Safety Committee (DRSC) meeting in Kargil.

The meeting was attended by Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kargil, Shree Ram R, Executive Engineer R&B, Chief Medical Officer Kargil, Executive Engineer PMGSY, Executive Officer Municipal Committee, ARTO, DTI, and representative from BRO, among others.

The meeting was aimed to review Action Taken Report from the previous meeting and discuss vital road safety measures. The meeting also focused on the recent tragic road accident at Shilikchey Kargil which claimed lives of five individuals.

Addressing the meeting, the Deputy Commissioner directed the Member Secretary of DRSC to form an interim committee comprising officials from various departments.

This committee would be tasked to compiling a detailed report on road safety measures.

Road Construction Agencies: BRO, R&B, and PMGSY were directed to install essential road signages, address blackspots, and ensure proper alignment of roads. These agencies were also instructed to submit a comprehensive Action Taken Report regarding road safety improvements.

The traffic police was directed to carry out regular checks to prevent overloading and overspeeding, particularly in high-risk zones known for accidents.

The Sub-Divisional Magistrates of Shakar Chiktan and Drass were asked to identify unused buildings along the National Highway that can be repurposed as restrooms for drivers, promoting safer travel and reducing fatigue-related accidents.

Agencies like VIJAYAK and NHIDCL and PWD/PMGSY were asked for conducting thorough road safety audits before the construction of new roads as well as existing roads and presenting their findings to the DRSC.

The Deputy Commissioner stressed the need for stringent road safety measures to ensure accidents free travel along roads. He highlighted the importance of inter-departmental collaboration and urged all stakeholders to prioritize road safety in their efforts.
