Farmers from Chilam Village Visit SAS&T for Exposure Tour

Leh, March 13 (KIP)-A group of farmers from Chilam Village in Tangtse Tehsil visited the School of Agricultural Sciences and Technology (SAS&T), Leh campus, for an exposure tour organized by the Horticulture Department of Leh, UT Ladakh. The visit aimed to provide the farmers with valuable insights into modern agricultural practices and technologies to enhance their farming techniques.

The tour began with a lecture by Dr. Dechean Angmo, who discussed the process of vegetable nursery raising and the potential for growing various vegetable varieties in protected structures during winter to generate additional income. Following the lecture, a demonstration of different green vegetable varieties in a protected structure was conducted, showcasing the practical application of these techniques. Dr. Kunzang Lamo also delivered a session on the importance of budding and grafting for fruit plant propagation, emphasizing how these techniques can improve fruit production. Dr. Thanlass Nurboo shared insights into common insect pests that affect vegetables, fruit plants, and field crops, along with effective pest management strategies. Ms. Kaniz Fatima explained the significance of weather-based agro-advisory services for farmers and conducted a field visit to the Automatic Weather Station (AWS) and manual Agromet Observatory to help the farmers understand how weather data can guide farming decisions.

The exposure tour concluded with a guided visit to several key facilities at SAS&T, including the Precision Farming Development Centre, the Automatic Weather Station, and the Apiculture Unit.
