GDC Kargil introduces Ability Enhancement Courses in regional languages of Ladakh

Kargil,March 29 (KIP)-As decided by University of Ladakh, Government Degree College Kargil has introduced Ability Enhancement Courses as conversational skills in regional languages of Ladakh (i.e; Purgi, Shina, Balti, Bhoti and Dardi) languages for the students of Semester-4.
GDC Kargil held an inaugural session for the students of Purgi, Shina and Balti courses on Saturday 29th March 2025 in the college seminar Hall.
Principal GDC Kargil, Prof. Disket Angmo, in her inaugural address highlighted the importance of regional languages and asked the students to learn different aspects of these languages sincerely.
She said that Purgi being the majority language of Kargil, is more close to it's Tibetan form and it's pronounced in the same pure fashiom as it's written in it's original script,thus well preserved by the speakers through the ages.
She welcomed the guest lecturers who are assigned to teach these language courses in the college during the current academic courses.
Issa Sabri, Guest Lecturer Purgi Language presented traditional Khatak to Principal and expressed gratitude on behalf of Purig Cultural and Literary Society Kargil. About 130 students have opted for Purgi Language.
Besides, Mohd Raza Amjad Badgami conducted the inaugural session for Shina Language in which 32 students have registered so far. While Bhoti, Balti and Dardi Language has opted by 7,5 and 4 students respectively. Classes in these languages will also be held soon subject to availability of adequate teaching resources.
The objective of these courses is to make students familiar with their socio-linguistic ethos and understand the cultural roots of Ladakh more closely through an academic perspective.
This course will be comprised of 2-Credits and the syllabus for respective languages are already being framed by the respective board of studies set up by the University of Ladakh earlier in the month of February 2025.
University of Ladakh has come up with such a unique initiative to inculcate education in regional languages for the first time since it's inception which is being appreciated in the public for it's wider benefits and objectives to preserve vernacular languages.
These courses are aimed at orientation of the spoken forms of languages and make the students able to be familiar with the literary and linguistic knowledge of their own languages which in turn fulfill the key objectives of New Education Policy-2020.
