Hakeem Yaseen Congratulates J&K on Historic Ranji Trophy Triumph

Srinagar, February 28 (KIP)- President of the People’s Democratic Front (PDF) and former Minister Hakeem Mohammad Yaseen on Saturday congratulated the Jammu and Kashmir cricket team for scripting history by lifting the Ranji Trophy title for the first time in the Union Territory’s history.
In a statement issued here, Hakeem Yaseen termed the victory as a “landmark moment” for Jammu and Kashmir’s sporting fraternity. He said the triumph would inspire generations of young cricketers across the region.
He said the team’s remarkable performance in the Ranji Trophy 2025-26 final against Karnataka reflects the immense talent, resilience, and determination of the players.
Jammu and Kashmir clinched the prestigious domestic title after securing a decisive first-innings lead in the final. After opting to bat first, J&K posted a mammoth total of 584 runs in their first innings, anchored by a brilliant century from Shubham Pundir (121). The batting effort laid a solid foundation for the historic win.
With the ball, the team displayed equal dominance, bowling out Karnataka for 293. Pace spearhead Auqib Nabi played a crucial role by claiming an impressive five-wicket haul, helping J&K establish a commanding first-innings lead.
Karnataka’s veteran batter Mayank Agarwal fought hard with a superb 160, but his effort proved insufficient against J&K’s disciplined bowling attack.
Building on their advantage, J&K further consolidated their position in the second innings, extending the overall lead to 633 runs, courtesy centuries from Qamran Iqbal and Sahil Lotra. The match ultimately ended in a draw on Day 5, with Jammu and Kashmir declared champions by virtue of their massive first-innings lead.
Hakeem Yaseen said this historic achievement has brought immense pride and joy to the people of Jammu and Kashmir. He lauded the players, coaching staff, and the cricket administration for their dedication and hard work.
He further urged the government to provide enhanced infrastructure, training facilities, and sustained support to budding sportspersons to ensure that such milestones become a regular feature in the future.
“The victory is not just a sporting success but a symbol of hope, unity, and aspiration for our youth,” he added.
