HPV Vaccination Programme Launched in UT Ladakh
in Line with National Initiative to Prevent Cervical Cancer.

Leh, February 28 (KIP)-The National Health Mission NHM, UT Ladakh, today officially launched the Human Papillomavirus (HPV) Vaccination Programme at SNM Hospital Leh, marking a significant step toward safeguarding adolescent girls from cervical cancer and strengthening preventive healthcare services in the region.
The programme was launched by the Hon’ble Prime Minister Narendra Modi via online mode from Ajmer, as part of a broader national initiative to expand cervical cancer prevention through HPV vaccination. At the State level event held in Leh, the programme was inaugurated by Dr. Laltinkhuma Franklin, Commissioner Secretary, Health & Medical Education UT Ladakh, in the presence of Sh. Tushar Anand (IAS) Mission Director NHM UT Ladakh, Sh. Ghulam Mohammed Additional Deputy Commissioner Leh, Dr. Tashi Thinles, Director of Health Services UT Ladakh, Dr. Dolma Chuskit, Chief Medical Officer Leh and other senior officials from the Health Department.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Tashi Thinles emphasized the importance of early prevention and urged parents and guardians to actively support the vaccination drive. He highlighted that cervical cancer is largely preventable through timely vaccination and regular screening.
During the launch event, seven girl children were vaccinated, and their details were successfully updated on the U-WIN digital platform. Sh. Tushar Anand handed over digital acknowledgements to the beneficiaries, demonstrating the integration of technology in strengthening immunization services.
The launch of the HPV Vaccination Programme reflects the continued commitment of the Health Department, UT Ladakh, to protect the health and well being of adolescent girls and to build a healthier future by preventing cervical cancer across the region.
