World Theatre Day Celebrated in Leh

Leh, March 27 (KIP)- World Theatre Day was celebrated with enthusiasm at Lotsava Auditorium, Leh, organised by the Ladakh Theatre Organization (LTO) in collaboration with the Ladakh Academy of Art, Culture and Languages (LAACL), Leh.

The event brought together theatre practitioners, cultural enthusiasts, artists, and members of the public to mark the importance of theatre as a vibrant medium of artistic expression, social reflection, and cultural preservation.

President, Youth Wing, Ladakh Buddhist Association (LBA), Jigmet Raftan, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest, while President, Women Wing, LBA, Kunzes Dolma Jawo, attended as the Guest of Honour.

Among those present on the occasion were Deputy Secretary, LAACL Leh, Tsewang Paljor; Deputy Secretary, LAACL Kargil, Nazir Hussain; members of the Ladakh Theatre Organization; theatre artists; and a large number of theatre enthusiasts.

Speaking on the occasion, Deputy Secretary, LAACL Leh, Tsewang Paljor, highlighted the significance of theatre in reflecting the realities of life and society. He said that theatre remains a powerful tool for communication, awareness, and cultural expression, and stressed the need to preserve and promote theatre in Ladakh for future generations.

Founder of Ladakh Theatre Organization, Mipham Otsal, also addressed the gathering and spoke about the significance of World Theatre Day. He emphasised the need to introduce theatre courses in educational institutions so that young people can be encouraged to engage with the performing arts and develop a deeper appreciation for Ladakh’s storytelling and dramatic traditions.

The programme also featured a theatrical performance and musical presentation by theatre artists of the Ladakh Theatre Organization, which was well received by the audience.

The performances reflected local artistic talent and showcased the role of theatre in conveying meaningful social and cultural messages.

Addressing the gathering, the organisers underlined that World Theatre Day serves as an important occasion to recognise the contribution of theatre practitioners and to strengthen the cultural fabric of society through meaningful artistic expression.

The celebration concluded on a vibrant and inspiring note, with participants appreciating the efforts of the organisers in providing a valuable platform for local talent and in promoting theatre culture in Ladakh.
