Administrative Secretary, SED, Bhanu Prabha conducts tour in Durbuk zone

Visits Last School of Ladakh, Middle School Phobrang

Leh, May 23 (KIP)-The Administrative Secretary, School Education Department, UT Ladakh, Bhanu Prabha conducted an extensive tour of the Durbuk Zone on May 22 to review the functioning of schools, assess infrastructure facilities and interact with students, teachers, parents and VEC members. She was accompanied by the District Education Planning Officer(DEPO), Leh, Phunstog Dorjey; Zonal Education Planning Officer (ZEPO), Leh, Chamba Stander and Zonal Education Officer(ZEO), Durbuk, Sonam Stobdan.

During the tour, the Administrative Secretary first visited High School Sato Kargyam, where she interacted with teachers and students and reviewed the school’s infrastructure and academic facilities.

She subsequently visited Government Middle School Merak, Government Primary School Man, High School Yourgo and Government Middle School Phobrang and Government Model Middle School Tharuk. During her visit, she presented television sets to Government Primary School Buk, Government Primary School Tialing, Government Middle School Merak, Government Primary School Man and Government Middle School Phobrang to support and enhance learning facilities for students.

At Government Middle School Phobrang, regarded as the last school of Ladakh situated along the Indo-China border, the Administrative Secretary interacted with parents, Village Education Committee (VEC) members and the Headmaster to understand the challenges and issues faced by the school. She also inspected classrooms and reviewed the overall infrastructure and functioning of the institution.

At High School Yourgo, the Administrative Secretary visited the agricultural fields where students were engaged in practical farming sessions as part of experiential learning activities. The students presented demonstrations on local food traditions and medicinal plants found in the mountainous region, highlighting indigenous knowledge and sustainable practices. Students of the school also performed a traditional folk song with the traditional Ladakhi instrument Kopong and showcased the significance of the nomadic way of life and its cultural importance in the region.

The visit reflected the School Education Department’s continued commitment towards strengthening educational institutions in remote and border areas of Ladakh while encouraging holistic and locally rooted learning experiences for students.
