GDC Samba Observes World Environment Day 2026

Awareness Programmes under Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan with Enthusiastic Participation of Students

Samba, June 05 (KIP)- Government Degree College, Samba organized a series of activities on the occasion of World Environment Day under the theme "Healthy Environment, Healthy Youth: Towards a Drug-Free and Sustainable Future" in collaboration with the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan (NMBA). The programme was organized by the NCORD Cell, NSS Unit and NCC units of the college.
The event was held under the patronage of the Principal, Prof. (Dr.) Nirlape Kour, who emphasized the importance of environmental conservation and the collective responsibility of society in combating substance abuse among youth.
The programme commenced with a Pledge Taking Ceremony under the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan, wherein students and faculty members pledged to remain committed to building a drug-free society.
An Awareness Lecture on Substance Abuse Prevention was delivered by DSP Arjun Singh Chib and Inspector Kuldeep Raj, who sensitized the students about the harmful effects of drug abuse, its social consequences, and the role of youth in promoting a drug-free environment. The resource persons also interacted with students and encouraged them to act as responsible citizens and ambassadors of positive change.
A Poster Making Competition on the themes of Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan and World Environment Day was organized to provide students with a platform to creatively express their ideas regarding environmental protection and drug abuse prevention.
To mark the World Environment Day, a Plantation Drive was conducted within the college campus. Faculty members and students planted saplings and reiterated their commitment towards environmental sustainability and ecological preservation.
The programme witnessed the active participation of around 70 NSS Volunteers and NCC Cadets, who enthusiastically took part in all the activities.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Papinder Bhagat, Nodal Officer, NCORD Cell, GDC Samba, highlighted the objectives of the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan and stressed the importance of awareness and community participation in eradicating substance abuse from society.
The event was coordinated with the active support of Dr. Mamta Bhagat and Dr. Nidhi Sharma, ANOs, NCC, and Dr. Babita Bhagat, Programme Officer, NSS.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Asha Singh and a renewed commitment by all participants towards creating a greener, healthier and drug-free future.
