Srinagar, June 05 (KIP)-People's Democratic Front (PDF) President and former Minister Hakeem Mohammad Yaseen on Friday called upon the administration to make comprehensive and timely arrangements for the smooth conduct of Muharram observances across Kashmir, with special focus on Budgam district, which witnesses large gatherings during the sacred month.
In a statement issued here, Hakeem Yaseen said that Muharram holds immense religious and spiritual significance for the Muslim community and requires proper planning to facilitate devotees participating in mourning processions, majlis gatherings and other religious activities.
He urged the concerned departments, including Health, Power Development, Jal Shakti, Municipal authorities, Roads and Buildings, and Traffic Police, to work in close coordination to ensure uninterrupted basic services during the Muharram period. He stressed the need for adequate drinking water supply, sanitation facilities, uninterrupted electricity, proper street lighting, medical assistance and traffic management along procession routes.
Hakeem Yaseen particularly emphasized the importance of making special arrangements in Budgam district, which hosts several major Muharram congregations and processions attended by thousands of mourners from different parts of Kashmir. He said the administration should undertake advance inspections of procession routes and religious venues to address any infrastructural shortcomings well before the commencement of the observances.
The PDF president also called for the deployment of medical teams and ambulances at key locations to provide immediate assistance in case of emergencies. He further urged authorities to ensure cleanliness around Imambaras, shrines and other religious sites and to repair damaged roads that may cause inconvenience to mourners.
Highlighting the need for public convenience, Hakeem Yaseen appealed to the administration to establish effective coordination mechanisms with local religious organizations and community representatives to address issues on priority and ensure the smooth conduct of all Muharram-related activities.
He expressed hope that the administration would take all necessary steps to facilitate devotees and uphold the sanctity of the holy month.
Hakeem Yaseen also appealed to the public to maintain peace, harmony and discipline during the observances and cooperate with the authorities in ensuring the successful and dignified conduct of Muharram across Kashmir.
