Preparatory Meeting Held in Leh for Visit of His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama

Leh, June 19 (KIP)-A high-level preparatory meeting regarding the upcoming visit of His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama to Ladakh on June 28, 2026, was held today under the chairmanship of Assistant Commissioner Revenue (ACR), Leh, Delex Namgyal JKAS, to review arrangements and ensure smooth coordination among all concerned departments.
The meeting was attended by the President, Ladakh Buddhist Association (LBA); President, Ladakh Gonpa Association (LGA); Chief Medical Officer (CMO), Leh; Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP), Leh; Chief Representative Officer, Tibetan Refugee (TR), Leh; Officers and officials from Traffic Police, Security, Public Works (R&B), Public Health Engineering (PHE), Rural Development, Municipal Committee (MC), Department of Information and Public Relations (DIPR), along with other concerned officers and officials.
During the meeting, detailed discussions were held on the various preparatory measures required for the visit of His Holiness. Special emphasis was laid on route arrangements, security deployment, crowd management, traffic regulation, and logistical coordination to ensure the visit is conducted in a smooth, dignified, and well-organized manner.
LBA President, Tsering Dorjay Lakrook highlighted several important requirements and requested timely arrangements for the successful conduct of the visit. He also apprised the meeting of subsequent coordination meetings to be held in the coming days for further planning and execution.
The LBA was requested to submit a formal list of requirements to facilitate coordinated arrangements by the concerned departments. Medical preparedness was also reviewed in detail, with the Health Department being asked to share duty rosters and ensure the availability of adequate medical personnel and emergency response facilities.
The meeting further stressed the importance of maintaining cleanliness and proper upkeep of all venues associated with the visit, including the teaching venue at Jivetsal and the residence of His Holiness. Departments concerned were directed to ensure sanitation, water supply, and related civic amenities are maintained at the highest standards.
It was also decided that another review meeting would be convened to assess security upgradation measures, rechecking of CCTV surveillance systems at both the residence and Jivetsal, and arrangements related to vehicle passes and access control.
Additionally, preliminary discussions were held regarding the grand celebrations of the 91st birthday of His Holiness the Dalai Lama on July 6, with stakeholders emphasizing coordinated efforts to ensure the event is observed in a befitting and memorable manner.
All departments were directed to maintain close coordination and ensure timely execution of assigned responsibilities for the successful conduct of these significant events.
