Police Intensify Anti-Drug Campaign; Awareness Drives, Medical Shop Inspections

Srinagar, July 03 (KIP)-J&K Police have intensified their anti-drug campaign under the ongoing Nasha Mukt Jammu & Kashmir Abhiyan, carrying out a series of coordinated enforcement, awareness, and preventive measures in Handwara, Pulwama and Sopore to combat the drug menace and promote a drug-free society.

In Handwara, Police organised a drug awareness programme at Government High School Nowgam, falling under the jurisdiction of Police Station Qalamabad, where students were educated about the harmful effects of substance abuse and encouraged to adopt healthy lifestyles while contributing positively to society.

As part of enforcement measures, Police also conducted inspections of medical shops within the jurisdiction of Police Station Handwara to ensure compliance with regulations governing the sale of prescription medicines. Shopkeepers were advised to strictly follow legal procedures and maintain prescribed records.

Further strengthening anti-narcotics efforts, Handwara Police, in collaboration with members of civil society and local volunteers, launched a special drive to identify and destroy wild hemp plants growing in various areas under the jurisdiction of Police Station Handwara. The initiative aimed to eliminate the sources of narcotic substances and reinforce the vision of a drug-free Jammu and Kashmir.

Meanwhile, Pulwama Police continued its sustained anti-drug campaign through a series of preventive and awareness initiatives. Police Post Newa, in coordination with the Revenue Department and village Numberdars, conducted a wild cannabis destruction drive in the villages of Singu Narbal and Dafferpora. During the operation, wild cannabis plants growing on government land were identified and destroyed on the spot in the presence of Revenue officials, volunteers, media representatives, and local stakeholders.

On the awareness front, Pulwama Police organised an anti-drug awareness programme at Sheikh-ul-Alam High School, Rahmoo, where students and teaching staff were sensitised about the dangers of drug abuse and the importance of collective responsibility in building a drug-free society.

Meanwhile, Sopore Police, in a joint operation with the Revenue and Excise Departments, also destroyed wild cannabis during a special drive conducted at Reban as part of the Nasha Mukt JK Abhiyaan, reaffirming its commitment to sustained action against narcotics.
