DC Zanskar Reviews Independence Day Preparations
Assesses Developmental Progress and Priority Projects

Zanskar, August 05 (KIP)-The Deputy Commissioner Zanskar, Omkar Rajendra Gundage, IAS, today chaired a review meeting with district and sectoral officers to assess preparations for the forthcoming 80th Independence Day celebrations, review the physical and financial progress achieved by departments during the last three months, and discuss priority projects proposed for completion during the current financial year.
The meeting was also attended by Superintendent of Police, Rigzin Sandup and other district officers.
Reviewing the arrangements for Independence Day celebrations, the Deputy Commissioner directed all departments to ensure coordinated efforts for the smooth and successful conduct of the national event. It was informed that the main function will be held at the Sports Stadium near TRC, Padum, from 9:30 AM to 11:30 AM.
The DC stressed the need for greater participation of contingents and directed the concerned departments to finalize all participating contingents well in advance.
The Deputy Commissioner instructed that all venue-related preparations, including ground cleaning and allied works, be completed by August 10. Arrangements regarding the arrival of the chief guest, parade contingents, cultural programmes and other ceremonial activities were also reviewed. He directed all departments to submit nominations for awards and recognitions before August 10 and suggested the inclusion of ex-servicemen in the celebrations.
The meeting also discussed arrangements for cultural performances showcasing the rich cultural heritage of Zanskar. Officers and officials participating in the celebrations were encouraged to wear traditional attire. It was informed that the full-dress rehearsal will be conducted on August 13, and all concerned departments were directed to ensure their participation and readiness.
The Deputy Commissioner emphasized the importance of maintaining cleanliness at the venue and directed the installation of adequate dustbins and temporary toilet facilities. The Police Department was directed to ensure comprehensive security arrangements, while the Health Department was instructed to keep ambulances and emergency medical services on standby. The Power Development Department was asked to ensure uninterrupted power supply with adequate backup arrangements, and the Public Health Engineering Department was directed to provide sufficient drinking water facilities. The Zanskar Development Authority (ZDA) was tasked with arranging refreshments during the programme, while departments were directed to provide necessary furniture and logistical support.
Later, the Deputy Commissioner reviewed the physical and financial progress achieved by various departments during the last three months. He directed officers to accelerate the pace of developmental works and ensure timely implementation of projects. Stressing accountability and effective monitoring, he called for improved inter-departmental coordination to ensure efficient delivery of public services and developmental benefits to the people.
The meeting also deliberated on priority developmental projects proposed by various departments. The DC directed each department to identify and submit at least five priority works targeted for completion during the current financial year, along with their present status, timelines for completion, anticipated bottlenecks, and the support or intervention required from the District Administration. He emphasized that regular monitoring of these projects would be undertaken to ensure timely completion and effective outcomes.
The Deputy Commissioner further stressed the importance of strengthening revenue administration and directed concerned officers to take necessary measures for making tehsil-level offices more functional and responsive to public needs.
He also advised all government employees to minimize leave and maintain regular attendance in offices to ensure smooth functioning of administration and effective implementation of developmental programmes.
The meeting concluded with a call for collective efforts from all departments to ensure the successful celebration of Independence Day and the timely completion of priority developmental projects across Zanskar.
