One-Day Training Programme on Oilseed Cultivation and Sustainable Farming Practices

Igoo, August 10 (KIP)-The Department of Agriculture, Kharu Sub-Division, organized a one-day training programme at Igoo village under the National Mission on Edible Oils (Oilseeds).
The programme primarily focused on promoting the cultivation of oilseeds, particularly mustard, with the objective of reducing dependence on imported edible oils. Farmers were also sensitized to various agricultural technologies and government schemes, besides receiving hands-on training on mushroom cultivation and organic and natural farming techniques.
The training aimed to enhance the technical knowledge and practical skills of farmers, promote sustainable agricultural practices, and provide a platform for one-to-one interaction with farmers to address their concerns, interests and queries related to agricultural practices.
The programme was chaired by Sub-Divisional Agriculture Officer, Kharu, Mohd Ramzan, who highlighted the importance of expanding mustard cultivation in the village and briefed the farmers on recommended practices for mustard production. He also elaborated on the significance of organic and natural farming and demonstrated the preparation and application of natural farming inputs, including Jeevamrit, Beejamrit and Agni Astra.
Agriculture Extension Officer, Leh, Tsering Dolkar, imparted training on compost and vermicompost preparation and explained the package of practices to be followed in Ladakh Green Houses.
Agriculture Extension Officer, Kharu, Kunzang Dolma, conducted practical demonstrations on organic mushroom cultivation, covering substrate preparation, spawning, incubation, crop management and harvesting techniques. She also imparted training on various cultural, physical and integrated approaches to disease and pest management.
The programme witnessed enthusiastic participation from around 40 farmers, who actively interacted with the resource persons and gained valuable insights into sustainable farming technologies and improved agricultural practices.
