IUST Convenes BoRS for the School of Engineering and Technology

Awantipora, August 12 (KIP)- The Board of Research Studies (BoRS) of the School of Engineering and Technology, Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST), held its meeting at the University.
The meeting was chaired by Vice Chancellor Prof. Shakil Ahmad Romshoo and attended by Prof. Sheikh Ajaz Bashir, Dean Academic Affairs; Prof. Shamim Ahmad Shah, Registrar; Dr. Aabid Hussain Shalla, Dean Research; Dr. Peer Bilal Ahmad, Controller of Examinations; Prof. Faroze Ahmad, Dean, School of Engineering and Technology; faculty members and external experts from leading institutions, including Delhi University, JNU, IIT Bombay, NIT Srinagar, University of Kashmir and SLIET Punjab, among others.
The Board deliberated on various research-related matters, including approval of synopses, research scholars’ progress, recognition of supervisors, research progress reports and introduction of new research-oriented courses. Speaking on the occasion, Dean Research Dr. Aabid Hussain Shalla highlighted the University’s efforts to strengthen its research ecosystem. He informed the Board that the new Ph.D. Ordinance and Project Implementation Guidelines had recently been approved by the Executive Council, while efforts were underway to further streamline the University’s Consultancy Policy. He described BoRS as an important pillar of the University’s research governance framework, bringing together experts to enhance the quality and impact of research.
Vice Chancellor Prof. Shakil Ahmad Romshoo stressed the importance of holding statutory meetings regularly to facilitate informed and timely decision-making. He highlighted the role of such forums in ensuring academic rigor, transparency, quality assurance and continuous improvement of research programmes. He also noted that the establishment of research centres in emerging areas such as Artificial Intelligence, Cybersecurity and Quantum Materials has strengthened the University’s research capabilities and prospects for competitive extramural funding. The meeting concluded with a vote of thanks by Prof. Faroze Ahmad, Dean, School of Engineering and Technology.
