Ganderbal, August 13 (KIP)- Observing the Anti-Ragging Week 2026, Department of Law, School of Legal Studies, Central University of Kashmir (CUKashmir), organised an awareness programme for the students on the theme “Yaari: Youth Against Ragging – Say No to Ragging”, in the department here.

Addressing the participants, Dean and Head, SLS, Prof. Farooq Ahmad Mir, described ragging as punishable under law and prohibited within the university.

He highlighted that ragging could have serious and sometimes irreversible consequences for both the perpetrator and the victim. He referred to various unfortunate incidents in which students have suffered severe psychological trauma and, in some cases, have even taken extreme steps such as suicide because of ragging and harassment. Prof. Mir highlighted important Supreme Court judgments and judicial directions concerning the prohibition and prevention of ragging, stressing that educational institutions have a responsibility to ensure a safe and dignified environment for every student.

He further advised the senior students to act as mentors and friends to their juniors rather than subjecting them to any form of humiliation, harassment or intimidation. He emphasized that a healthy academic institution must be based on cordiality, mutual respect, discipline, inclusiveness and cooperation.

He asked the students to remain focused on their studies, work hard and utilize their time and opportunities effectively to achieve their academic and professional goals.

The students pledged that they would neither indulge in ragging nor encourage, support or remain silent about any incident of ragging. The pledge also emphasized mutual respect, dignity, friendship and cooperation among students irrespective of their semester or seniority.
