DUJ and KUWJ (Delhi Unit) Condemn Raids on Journalist Ravi Nair's Home
19/08/2026
New Delhi, August 19 (KIP)-The DUJ and KUWJ (Delhi Unit) strongly condemn the Gujarat police raids conducted on August 17, 2026 at journalist Ravi Nair’s residences in Delhi and Kerala.
Following an FIR related to a Washington Post report co-authored by Nair about how the LIC was allegedly pressurized to invest in Adani group companies, the Gujarat police seized two phones and pendrives from his Kerala home. In Delhi, they also seized the laptop of Nair’s son and the laptop and iPad of his colleague, neither of whom are accused in the case. The police did not provide hash values of the devices, raising concerns about possible tampering.
Ravi Nair has been singled out in this case, that too apparently for tweeting the story he wrote for Washington Post. Neither Washington Post nor the coauthors faced any prosecution, which is a clear indication that Adani and the Union Government are fearing a backlash when further truths about using LIC to save a crony company comes out in public.
DUJ and KUWJ (Delhi Unit) demand the immediate return of the devices belonging to Nair’s son and his colleague.
We deeply regret the growing tendency to harass journalists for their investigative work and view these raids as a direct assault on media freedom and press independence.
