BJP J&K Pays Tributes to Maharaja Hari Singh Ji on His Birth Anniversary in Srinagar

Srinagar, September 23 (KIP)- Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Jammu and Kashmir paid warm tributes to Maharaja Hari Singh Ji on his birth anniversary in Srinagar.
J&K BJP General Secretary (Organisation) Ashok Koul, along with J&K Waqf Board Chairperson Dr Darakhshan Andrabi, MLAs, Vice President Dr Shehnaz Ganie, and senior party leaders, paid floral tributes to Maharaja Hari Singh Ji on his Jayanti at the party headquarters in Jawahar Nagar, Srinagar.
Addressing the gathering, Ashok Koul said that the contribution of Maharaja Hari Singh Ji to Jammu and Kashmir will always be remembered. He said the Maharaja will be remembered as a man of sheer will and determination who pursued progressive policies for his citizens.
Maharaja Hari Singh, a Hindu king who ruled over a Muslim-majority state, is often described primarily in these terms. However, Koul said it is important, in the context of the present, to recognise how the Maharaja rose above communal stereotyping and stood by his words, “Justice is my religion,” his first statement after assuming the high office in 1925. He said Maharaja Hari Singh did not discriminate between his Hindu and Muslim subjects.
Dr Darakhshan Andrabi hailed Maharaja Hari Singh’s decision to accede to India, saying that the erstwhile ruler’s “wisdom” had benefited the region immensely.
Dr Andrabi said, “Today is the day of Maharaja Hari Singh’s birthday. At that time, he decided that when our whole India became free, the princely status would go with India.”
“And the decision he took, today we are seeing how wisely he took the decision and how much we have benefited from it. Today, we are with India and our country.”
MLAs Ranbir Singh Pathania and Devyani Singh Rana, in their adress, said that the entire Jammu and Kashmir is celebrating the birth anniversary of the great ruler Maharaja Hari Singh Ji with pride because, “Today, we are an inseparable and proud part of the great Indian nation due to his vision and courage.”
They described Maharaja Hari Singh as a legendary social reformer who ruled not for power but to serve his people. They said that Maharaja Hari Singh Ji promoted education for women and the underprivileged, provided rights of worship to Dalits, and initiated Panchayati Raj reforms.
His philosophy was clear: as a ruler, he had no religion; justice was his religion.
BJP State Secretaries Arif Raja and Mudasir Wani; State Spokespersons Altaf Thakur, Sahil Bashir, and Manzoor Bhat; Media Incharge Adv. Sajid Yousuf Shah; Salinder Singh; Imtiyaz Bhat; and other senior leaders were present on the occasion.
