Draw of Lots for Women’s Reservation in 13 Panchayat Halqas Held in Zanskar

Zanskar, October 21 (KIP)-A draw of lots for the reservation of seats for women under the Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRI) framework was conducted today for 13 Panchayat Halqas across three blocks of Zanskar District.
The draw was held at Government Model Degree College, Zanskar, under the supervision of Deputy Commissioner Zanskar, Mr. Omkar Rajendra Gundage.
Superintendent of Police Zanskar, Mr. Rigzin Sangdup (JKPS), Sub-Divisional Magistrate Zanskar, Mr. Jasif Amin (JKAS), and other district officers attended the event. Political representatives, public representatives, and a large number of local residents were also present to witness the draw.
During the proceedings, the Block Development Officers (BDOs) briefed attendees on the reservation process and the applicable rules under the PRI framework.
The Deputy Commissioner appreciated the participation of public representatives and other stakeholders in the process. The exercise was conducted to determine women’s reservation across the identified Panchayat Halqas in the three blocks of Zanskar District.
The draw marks an important administrative step in the implementation of women’s reservation in Panchayati Raj Institutions and their representation in grassroots local governance.
